Author Spotlight on Jessica R. LeMore

Welcome to our Author Spotlight, where we shine a light on writers, authors and literary wonders from all over the world.

Today our spotlight is shining on Jessica R. LeMore, author of The Mirrored Crown series.

1. First, tell us a little about your book/project?

I write young adult fantasy. The first two books in the series, The Princess of the Rebellion and The Crystal of Medora, are out now. The third book will be out in May. The series follows a 15-year-old girl named Lana as she learns that her parents aren’t her birth parents, and she is a princess from a land in another dimension. Her birth father founded a rebellion against his father, the king. After the king’s murder, she is sent into hiding. Lana returns to her birthplace, a city named Bridian and tries to adjust to her new life, while also mourning the life and friends she left behind. While in Bridian, Lana learns the real reason her birth father and his rebels are so desperately searching for her.

2. What kind of research did you do and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?

I didn’t do much research regarding my plot. What I did spend a lot of time researching was how to to self-publish. I spent about 6 months learning what I could about the self-publishing process. In the beginning it was a lot to take on, but I broke everything down into smaller, manageable steps.

3. If you could tell your younger writing self one thing, what would it be?

Don’t give up. There will be people that don’t like your story and that’s okay. Your self-worth doesn’t come from other people and their opinions of your work, that can only come from within.

4. Can you tell us a bit about your writing space? Is there something you need to have when writing?

With a full-time job in higher education and a 5-year-old, I’ve learned to write in my pockets of time. I can pretty much write wherever, whenever. I mainly use my laptop, but if it isn’t with me, any pen and notebook will work!

5. If you could be a character from any book for 24hours, who would you be?

I may be biased, but I would choose my main character, Lana. Even though life has thrown her some curveballs, she is strong and independent. Plus, she is a siphon for magic, and I would love to have magical abilities, if even for 24 hours!
