Author Spotlight on A. N. Sage

Welcome to our Author Spotlight, where we shine a light on writers, authors, and literary wonders worldwide.

Today our spotlight is shining on A. N. Sage, YA Fantasy author talking about her most recent release The Things the River Hides

1. First, tell us a little about your book/project?

The Things the River Hides is a young adult dark fantasy filled with mystery, long-held secrets, murder, and a desperate race to save a life. It follows a girl named Nastya who has a very special gift that has turned her into a pariah in the town she lives. As much as Nastya would love to follow her mother's instructions to lay a low profile, she soon finds herself wrapped in a mystery that she cannot let go off and one that can destroy someone she cares for, if not even herself.

2. What kind of research did you do and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?

This book is based on a fairly obscure Eastern European myth that does not have much concrete history written on it. I spent months digging up anything I could find and had many books and online sources translated from 3 different languages to get details for this book. It was an amazing experience!

3. If you could tell your younger writing self one thing, what would it be?

Don't throw out any of those stories you wrote in the night. They will be the backbone of your entire future.

4. Can you tell us a bit about your writing space? Is there something you need to have when writing a book?

I have an office where I write and it is full of knick-knacks. When I sit down to write, I always have to have complete silence, a lit candle and a hot tea. My current favorites are any woodsy candle and a milk oolong blend that smells divine when brewed.

5. If you could be a character from any book for 24hours, who would you be?

Probably Cassidy Blake from Victoria Schwab's City of Ghosts. It's one of my favorite books despite being geared toward a younger audience and Cassidy's life is so interesting. I'd love to walk in her shoes for a day!
